IKEA celebrates African creativity

There is an explosion of exciting initiatives, projects and collaborations between Africa and Scandinavia.

The Swedish furniture manufacturer, IKEA, has established one of the biggest collaborations with several African creatives. The collaboration has its roots in the Design Indaba from South Africa, which has been responsible for the selection of the best, most creative and progressive thinkers from five different countries in Africa and with different experiences in the fields of design, fashion, textiles and architecture.

Ikea hopes that the project shows the outside world the great creativity and strength that emanates right now from Africa and African designers, and thus also helps to break down certain barriers.

The furniture and interior line is called ÖVERALLT and the concept is described as African rituals meet Scandi .

The result of the collaboration across continents, cultures, languages and traditions was recently shown to the outside world at the Design Indaba Festival in Cape Town, 27 February - 1 March - right where the project began two years ago.

We can start to look forward to the products hitting the stores in May. The collection is full of joy, is expressive and inclusive - and we are completely in line with IKEA's idea and purpose of the project - to show the outside world all that Africa has to offer.

Remember that the ÔVERALLT collection is limited editions! Do you want to secure some African vibes for spring and summer?

Fast Company expresses great positive words for the creative collaboration and praises the collection to the skies. Also read their excellent article right here .
